Gates ridicules $100 PC while Gartner calls Microsoft's UMPC a tweener!

Well it is not a surprise to me. Gates is quoted to as saying "If you are going to go have 30 children share the same computer in poor villages in India, get a broadband connection for Christ's sakes, and have somebody there who can help support the user, geez, get a decent computer where you can actually read the text and you a’re not sitting there cranking the thing while you're trying to type,”. "I think we need at least a hybrid laptop with a overclocked PC and a new power source. Its'"what we really need," said Gates, "but I hear bubble fusion has hit a few bumps lately."
He went further to say ""Hardware is a small part of the cost" of providing a PC, he noted, adding that the biggest costs come from network connectivity, support, and, er, applications." Yes if they were MS applications! This is some funny article I read.

At the same time the much hyped MS ultra Mobile PC seems to be ultra wapor. According Gartnerner, " Microsoft Corp.'s much ballyhooed ultra-mobile PC is more promise than real, as the technology needed to deliver the device envisioned by the software giant is at least two years away, a research firm said."
