Camille Wehs, the IT director for the City of Canton, Georgia says she sleeps better these days! So waht was she doing before these good sleeping days? She was battling network demons, Spam, viruses and such things on cities IT infrastructure and supporting the entire city staff from her onewoman operation.
What has given her a peace of mind is that she wisely decided to let someone else have the burden of running the servers for her, and that someone is Google and she seem to be very content with her work. She has moved the IT infrastructure to Google Apps.
She mentions that her fellow city employees now have more functionality at hand than they did before, from anywhere. The applications in use are instant messaging, video, and site publishing tools in addition to the basics of email, calendar, and word processing/spreadsheets. Just the same we use at my work and my home, from the same provider, Google Apps that we wrote about in 2007.

Google Apps introduces easy email migration service
I have been using Google Apps for a while now. I use them to enhance and aid me in covering most my needs, like scheduler(calendar), spreadsheet, and of course email.
I do not have the enterprise service but I do plan to upgrade my standard service soon. Which is used exclusively by my little startup which just started kicking it's limbs.
We rely on most of Google services to accomplish our goals. I am able to use my notebook for all my work and I do not have to be tethered to a chair and desk. And that is my best mode of operation.
Just do not think that only tiny startups that move their services to Google Apps! According to an article on Google blog Official Google Blog: A smooth Apps move, Central Piedmont Community College, replaced its old email system for 30,000 users in just 3 weeks. And that process came down to 3 million emails flying from their server over to ours in just 24 hours -- more than 2,000 emails per minute, all without missing a beat.

Google secures and may rescues M$ with new Google Pack.
I was looking for add ons for my ever groving Google stuff! I noticed the new add ons that increase the value of the Google Pack. Google Pack now sports two new packages, Symantec's Norton Security Scan, which detects and removes viruses, and PC Tools' Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, a top-rated anti-spyware utility.
And once your computer is clean and secure, you can start Photo casting with new Screen saver.
In the past when ever I had to help out a person in trouble, I had to scour the web for tools to help me clear up the mess they have created. Now I have the Google pack in one of my flash drives that I constantly fill/upgrade with rescue tools.
Symantec is not one of my favorite tools for virus removal, due to my personal reasons. But I have seen other people and my clients very happy with the product. Spyware Doctor Starter edition is also not my tool of the trade for removing and protecting from Spyware and malware. But again I have seen happy users that smile when they see the name!. see below for my choices.
I think this one of the best tool box, Google Pack, that any user can benefit without having to run to multiple sources to collect and keep their PC's up to date. There is a link on your right to grab the Google Pack.
The tools I use, are Avast Home edition for Virus protection. It also provides multiple shields, that I will have to write a complete article on it. By the way it is free for home or personal use.
For Spyware, I use Spybot search & destroy, or Spybot S&D, a supereb tool that I have used for many a years on my personal computers.
But it is not a easy job to keep your computer clean. Constant attention and time is needed. But I am proud to say I have had no Virus or Spyware trouble that I could not manage. For the record;
Virus attacks, fell victim 2 times in my whole computer life. (It is pretty long, my computer life, that might show how old I am. Let's say Apple II was the first computer that my parents gave me). But I have helped a bunch of people in trouble and a tool like Google pack will certainly come in handy.

Going to work with Google Apps, Google Apps enterprise
I have been using Google Docs & Spreadsheets and has been a refreshing experience. I use OpenOffice Org's Office applications and M$'s office suite. I have Open Office on my notebook, which I use most of the time. But it is much easier to use Docs & Spreadsheets for some of the tasks that I have to do day to day.
So I see on Official Docs & Spreadsheets blog entry that this is possible with your SMB (small business), your enterprise, your school or your family and friends, collectively called Google Apps.
The media all over telling it is $50/account/year but remember that You and I do not have to pay if you do not need to use the premiere version the standard version is free.
You can compare the two editions here. I have been using the free edition but planing to move on to the premier edition to make use of the API and third party applications and services.
